Lake Winnebago, MO
Lake Winnebago is the “best kept secret” for wonderful lake communities to live in; located in southern Lee’s Summit just off 291 hwy. This community of custom homes was developed around a 252 acre lake that is privately owned. There is a population of 550 property owners with most all of the homes located in the Lee’s Summit School District except the villa home area, which is home to the Raymore School District. Lake Winnebago is it’s own city so has its own city hall and police department but is still within Lee’s Summit Schools. The price range in this neighborhood ranges from the $200,000’s in 2nd and 3rd tier lots up to $2 million for some of the more coveted lakefront lots. On the north side of the lake, homes date back to the 1970’s and the south side was newly developed in the late 1990’s. This lake community is slated for a lake expansion but exact timing for commencing that project is unknown at this time. As a resident of Lake Winnebago for 8 years, I can testify that “I can’t imagine raising my children anywhere else. It is just part of our daily routine to walk out our back door and go skiing and wakeboarding or just go for a spin on the lake. There is just something calming about waking up and looking out your window at that great view”-Renee Amey
Enjoy lake sports at Lake Winnebago such as skiing, wakeboarding, sailing, and jet skiing. A ski course is in place for the competitive skier and there is a ski club for those who would like to compete in local competitions or just want the comradary of fellow skiers. On a number of Sunday mornings you will hear the foghorn go off with the local regatta to follow. The spectators may enjoy the view of all the sails on the lake as much as the actual participants. For fisherman, this lake is a great fishery. The Bass Buddy Tournament draws all the avid fisherman to the lake.
Lots & Docks
Unique to this lake community is the offering of dock rights for 1st tier and many 2nd tier home owners. The option to have your own private dock is a luxury that is a great drawing card for this community. You will find boat and jet ski lifts on the docks so home owners house their watercraft year round just behind their home. There are some lakefront lots still available for a build job on the South Shore at this lake but only a select few left.
The Winnebago Yacht Club is a gathering point for the community which can be rented for weddings and other social functions. The Yacht club offers dining 4 nights a week, a bar, and entertainment such as live bands on many occasions. Lake Winnebago also offers a Saddle Club with horse boarding facilities and a care taker in the community.
Clubs & Community Events
There are plenty of free community events to attend at Winnebago, centered around the holidays such as the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Breakfast with Santa, Casino nights, etc. The largest gathering is on the 4th of July where there is a full day of activities offered such as the Lake Winnebago Wizard Ski Show, a Build your Own Sailboat contest, Games, a 5K Run, and much more. There are a number of clubs to join in this community such as: Ski Club, Sailing Club, Lions Club, Saddle Club, Garden Club, etc.
There is not much publicity given to this lake so it remains the “best kept secret” but property owners at this lake rave about the lake and the lifestyle. There is no “packing up” and a long drive to go to the lake in this community where owners just “pack up” their life jacket to walk down to their dock to experience the lake!
